How To Have Your Coffee And Drink It Too
February 27th, 2017
It is safe to say that here at Plansure HQ, we all cannot possibly live without really enjoy our daily cup (or two…. or three…. or four) of coffee. And of course, we know that we are definitely not alone. We know that the average Australian consumes 3 kilos of coffee p/a which breaks down to one cup a day for 50 weeks of the year (we’re trying to be a little positive here… there are people that have a day off of coffee occasionally!).
Here are the hard facts… If an average cup of coffee is $4 then with one cup a day, we are spending $20 each week, or $1000 a year. When you think of it like that… well, that’s a potential wardrobe upgrade, the sting taken out of Christmas shopping, or if you’re a liiiiittle more sensible, an excellent top up or start to a savings plan!
Basically our advice to you is….. stop drinking coffee completely. Forever.
KIDDING! That is crazy talk.
So, the question you’re all asking is, how can I have my coffee and drink it too? THERE IS A WAY! With the huge array of DIY coffee machines on offer these days, you can make yourself a fantastic coffee, just as you like it (and hey, if a cool cup is part of the joyous experience for you, check out this one, this one and this one). We’ve even done all the calcs for you to prove that buying your own machine is a brilliant way to go:
OPTION 1 – Nespresso Pod Machine
First year’s savings: $352
Following annual savings: $750
Total savings over 5 years: $3,352
OPTION 2 – Sunbeam Manual Machine
First year’s savings: $495
Following annual savings: $812
Total savings over 5 years: $3,743
OPTION 3 – Automatic Machine
First year’s savings: -$3.00
Following annual savings: $812
Total savings over 5 years: $3,245
Another way to increase the perfection of your DIY coffee experience is to splash out and purchase beans from your favourite coffee shop. Some roasters even offer pods! These beans are sometimes more expensive than supermarkets (especially since you can always find at least one option on sale) but you will still end up reducing your overall cost compared to a $4 single coffee, plus support local business.
And if you are like us Plansure-ites and need more than one cup a day… just think of the increased savings! Or even if you swap one of your café-purchased coffees for a DIY… you’re saving yourself a decent amount of money.
